Okay so I'm posting this a little bit too late but I just wanted to sleep yesterday. After a full day at uni I hadn't much energy to do much :) Anyways, I did a full two hours for the first day. Got through 35 pages of Pirates, which is pretty good. Found some mistakes and found out that I add a lot of filler characters when I start a story. Characters who don't need to be there, or don't need to be described so much. Anyways got the day completely to myself today, soo onwards!

8 Scenes left of Rose Garden and my goal to have it finished by March is looking very achievable! I'm hoping for a few big pushes to get it done within the next couple of days. this should give me time to get ready for both uni and the edits of Pirates!

Word Counts and Rose Garden

I have always aimed for a word count with my writing. eg. 100,000. Yesterday as I was cruising the net, I come across a very useful page. On that page they were talking about how some stories are not meant to be novels and others are meant to be long. They made the point of just simply writing the story until it was finished. This really changed my outlook on a novel. It always worried me if my novel was less than my goal, when really it shouldn't worry me at all!

Anyhoo, this also made me think about my word length for Rose Garden. It easily makes 100k. But now it is just a question of where it is going to stop. I'm no longer going to focus on the length of the novel. Rather I am going to look at how many scenes I have 'planned' until the finish. So 15 scenes to go... at the moment... seeing as my muse is throwing four new scenes at me for every scene that I write, I could end up with a lot more scenes! lol Though I really am hoping to finish Rose Garden soon! Here's to hoping! ^^

I think I might have taken on a bit more than I can chew this year. I start Uni this year, and I have just moved to a whole new place -- it is the first time living on my own.

I has also taken on 2yn once again, I still have to finish Rose Garden which has turned into an 8 book series and I want to finish Pirates so that I can try and get it published. Add to that the fact I have started writing a story with a friend, and that I still have to finish writing Blood Donor along with the course How to think Sideways and I have to write The Dead Isles which is the second book of Pirates. I have a whole lot on!

I also have this strange ability to continue to think up story ideas at the moment. I'm going to be completely snowed under for a very long time!

The Slog Day 2

And so the slog begins again. I got my 50k in NaNo. Didn't do much in the way of writing during December. This month is going to be different. I will be writing 2k a day to get the last few thousand words of the novel complete. Then its time to work on the other million novels I have going at once.

Okay, so Day four was a dud. I didn't do any writing. But I'm still not real far behind my goal, so I'm not worried. I plan on reaching 30k by Sunday.

I was aiming for 7k tonite, but i'm not too far behind. The novel seems to be taking on a life of its own. Nothing like I thought it would be. Seems the characters have their own ideas on the situation.

This year I am aiming for a 100,000 word completed stand alone romance. Something that is very different from anything Ive done before. So it should be exciting. Will keep updates daily. :)

Its been a rough couple of months, but I've finally got back into the swing of things. With Nano on the way its just as well too ^_^

Pirates is looking good, coming along slowly, but finally beginning to shape up and take direction. It is definitely not what I ever envisioned. But that's what second draft is for. ^_^

Writing was basically at a stand still... Now I have come back full force. Been working on Pirates over the last few days, and been making nice progress. There are a whole lot of changes, but I have found bits of dialogue and paragraphs that I just cannot part with.

The book is completely different to what I first expected, but I can see where a lot of the changes will go, and I think that the story will be stronger over all. :)

So far I've done first read through edits to about 300 pages of 490. Not far to go, then I can start on second draft. Then I can finally finish Blood Donor. Which is probably one of my most promising pieces of work so far.

Okay, so it's been quite some time since I have posted. But my internet is finally fixed and in full force! Now I really have to get back to my courses, but first thing is first. Blood Donor is going on hold until Pirates is edited.

My goal this year is to send pirates off to a publisher. That means I have to hurry up and finish it. And seeing as there are really BIG changes being made to the novel, then I really have to put alot of my time into it. Then I can focus on Blood Donor.

So far I have 7000 words edited. The first two chapters were completely cut (Which was about 10k) and two more chapters have been added in between. A lot of the story will connect up, but there were a lot of things that just needed to be cut.

It's been a while. My internet is stuffing up all the time and so it is very rare that it ever works, just on the off chance.

Blood Donor has pretty much been put on hold whilst I do edits for pirates. I never actually realised how big a job it was going to be to edit Pirates, my writing style has changed a whole lot since last September when I began writing the book. I have a different vision for the entire story and there is a lot of tightening to be done to the sentences. Right now I am working through chapter by chapter, just trying to get it all done it's slow progress, but it's coming together.

Pirates of Hcallaec

It has been a while since I looked at the finished manuscript of pirates. I had planned to already be in the editing stages of that book, but it has taken me a while to get some ideas flowing for it. But now all the ideas are hitting me straight on and I can think again. I just needed a little time.

Hopefully this week I will be able to finish the first read of the entire manuscript. Then I can hop to the changes. It should be fun, and definitely a learning curve in my writing. But I still have a lot of hope for this book. I still think it is the best story I've come up with so far.

I just have to re-meet the characters. Learn who they are again. It'll be a challenge, but it will also be a lot of fun.

I'm still here. Haven't posted for ages. I'm heaps behind in all my assigments and I really haven't done much writing. But I sat down and wrote another scene for Blood Donor tonight and I'm pleased with the progress. Almost at 10,000 words now, so it's getting there.

Well this is the 4th day of writing (I had Saturday and Sunday off *.*) and things are going pretty well with Blood Donor. I have to admit that I am enjoying it, and there is a lot more drama to it, way more conflict. I've really been able to be flexible with my outline on this novel and I'm absolutely loving it.

The progress of this one is now 5,760 words and 6 scenes long. I'm really loving writing it. ^^

Bit late on this post ^^ Anyways, I now have 5 scenes, two of which are completely new scenes that I decided to just add in on the spur of the moment. I'm now glad my outline wasn't completely finished, because it has given me so much freedom and flexibility when I am writing.

I've decided to do the two month challenge at 2Yn over April and May. I've chosen the options for writing 122,000 a month for Blood Donor, and for a rewrite of 30,000 words for Poison (though I know this will probably surpass 30,000 words that I have to rewrite.) I was hoping the challenge would give me the competitive edge that I need. I have all day off tomorrow from work, so I am hoping to get a lot of writing done, and then I can focus more on my editing. ^^

I've made it to 4,416 words now, so it's slowly climbing. And I don't hate it, so that is always a plus ^^ now, only 195,000 to go, lol.

BD Day 2

Things are going pretty well for this story so far. I'm enjoying writing it, and I'm only three scenes into the entire novel. Though my scenes are far longer than what I planned them to be, so it looks as though I won't need as many.

I never realised how much I really love the flexibility of a bare bones outline. For some reason that always scared me before, but now I can really see how great it is. After writing the first scene in my outline, I was able to see that the second scene really didn't fit just there. So I added in another scene and brought in one of the other main characters, which will bring in some connections. It excites me that I have so much freedom to work with for this novel.

Anyways, the word count so far is 2,880. Pretty good start. Well at least I think so, lol. ^^

Blood Donor

I have officially begun writing Blood Donor. My outline is no where near finished, but I am going to write the first 5 or 6 scenes and then I will figure out how many more scenes I have to add in. Besides that I will be in the flow of writing and so I will know a whole lot more about my story.

Anyways so far I have 1,700 words for this, and I'm enjoying writing it. Let's just hope it continues getting more exciting. Especially since I have tried some new things to make it a bit more interesting.

Poison First Edit Phase

I finally finished the first Phase of editing for Poison. Now I have to redo an outline and then begin on the second draft. I think I'm up to the fun part now ^_^.

Again I have found out more about my own personal ways of doing things through editing Poison. When I'm writing first draft, I have to finish a whole scene, rather than trying to get a certain word count. When I'm editing I have to give myself a certain amount of time to do so. Like an hour. I get more done that way.

Anyways, tomorrow is a new day, and I can begin on the Edit outline. And then on April 1st I begin on the first Draft of Blood Donor, which has me really excited. Though I haven't done much with the outline. Which reminds me, I really should catch up on both my HTTS Assignments and my 2Yn Assignments. I'm really getting behind.

Progress Update

First on the agenda is Blood Donor. So far this story is continuing to surprise me, and I am having a lot of fun. So far I have 40 scenes of the 250 that I need. They are all very specific, and the story is simply filled with twists and turns that keep me surprised even as I write the outline. It is going to be very difficult for me to get bored with this novel. It just doesn't stop.

Haven't really been doing much on Pirates, but I have all of April, May and June to worry about that outline. Then I can start on Runaway Thief.

Yes, I have the story Idea for my `09 NaNo project. It's going to be rather smaller than my two current projects, half the size in fact. As it will only come out at 100,000 words. And it is going to focus more on romance than anything.

Last but not least, Poison. I've only editing one more Chapter, but I am continually more and more optimistic about this story. The editing process is just going so well. I can see places where I need to change things, and I can see scenes that just have to go. But I can also see scenes that need to stay. As I'm getting closer to the end of the book, there are more scenes that need to be kept. They get more specific. I'm enjoying this process a whole lot. ^^

Poison progress update

Well today has been the most productive day on Poison edits I have had since I began. I have now completely dissected the first 5 chapters. Which means I only have 7 chapters left. Then I can get into the nitty gritty of line edits -- which I'm really excited for, because that way I will be working scene by scene and making this novel sing.

Now I'm going to bed, so in the morning when I wake up, I can do a few edits!

So edits on Poison haven't been going as well as I hoped. Well until, in a last ditch effort I cracked open, Holly Lisle's Plot clinic, and decided to give her note cards revision a go. I did the first chapter last night with this method, and Hello, something happened! I got somewhere. I was able to figure out which scenes need the most help, and which ones can just plain go.

It no longer seems like such a large task. If I can just do this for every scene in every chapter. I'll be all good. Which also means that I'll have an outline to work from when I eventually do begin plotting. Which is always good. ^^

On to editing. No more procrastination.

Poison Edits

So I really haven't edited much of this novel. But I want to have it finished by the end of next month, that is my goal. So Tomorrow I will slog it out and get the first reading under way. I only have 8 more chapters, and if I read one tonight that only leaves 7 left tomorrow. That's easy enough. Then I can get down to the nitty gritty, and figure out which scenes need to go, and which ones are to be added, and which ones just need to change.

So much to do!

On a lighter note though, Blood Donor planning has been going good. I am really enjoying it so far, and I can see the story beginning to pan out a bit. Though there are a few twists there that I never would have guessed at. It's a whole lot of fun.

The Editing so far...

I've got to Chapter 4 in Poison. I love the story line, but I hate the way that I've written it. I can see so many ways to better the sentences, and even expand on the scenes. A lot of it is just useless drabble, and I have told not shown a lot of the time. It's more like an extremely comprehensive outline of each scene, showing every move. But that is easily fixed. I can also see places where I have dropped subplots, and where I can change things to make the beginning of the story more exciting. For some reason I always have boring beginnings in first draft. Oh well, that's what second draft is for ^^

Right now I'm loving the editing process. Poison is so much easier to edit than Beneath Ice, probably because it is actually coherent, and Beneath Ice will pretty much have to be re-written from scratch. That is going to be a big job.

Anyways, 4 chapters down -- 8 to go. Well at least in the first pass of editing.

Tomorrow is the 1st of March, which means that it is the first day that I will be editing Poison. I am both nervous and excited for this, it means that I will be learning quite a bit from it, and also that I will have a novel that I actually want to sell in the editing stage. Hopefully it will all go smoothly, my deadline for this is April 30th.

I've begun plotting The Dead Isles as well. The first scene is down. Okay, so there are a lot of scenes in this one, but I will plod along, one by one until I come to an end. I hope to begin plotting Blood Donor pretty soon as well.

Guardian of the Lake

So I finally finished Guardian of the lake. I planned for it to be about 5,000 words but it didn't end up even reaching 4,000. Not that it really matters. I have learnt through writing Poison and Pirates that I like to write very short to the point scenes. Besides, they will probably get bigger when I eventually get around to making it my WIR.

I'm just pleased that I finished it. I like it when I finish works, both when they are novels and short stories. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

Blood Donor

My Muse came a knocking today. This particular story was spurred on by a bit of material that I found the other week. Now I just have to write the story. I cannot help it, I need to write it. Gosh it's been a while since I felt like that (Since I first started planning for Pirates). The story is coming together nicely.

All I have to do is a little bit of Worldbuilding, though it will be set in Australia, either Melbourne or Sydney. Then I have to flesh out a few of my characters, and plot the novel. Then I can begin. I don't think it is going to take me all that long, considering that things are jumping into my head so fast at the moment.

Here's the snippet that inspired me on this novel. I wrote it at the start of last year, so I hadn't seen it for a while;

In my life, genes are what differentiate between the needed and the wanted. I fall under the needed category.

I was genetically modified with the consent of my parents, who resorted to IVF when they were unable to conceive. Of course they don't know their daughter is a genetically modified human, or GMH as I call it.

I know, makes me sound like a food. In some ways that is exactly what I am, but in others I am so much more.

You see I'm an invisible hero. One of those people who never get credit for what they do. You know, like the people who donate thousands of dollars under an anonymous same, to charity. Only I didn't get a choice.

I'm the Savior of two races. Because without me, and the various other GMH's out there, both races would soon become extinct. The weaker of the two being eaten off, and the stronger, well they'd eventually starve to death.

That was why GMH's were created. So that we can keep the world from falling apart. Sometimes that's harder then anyone can know, well at least that's what I think.

But how can I say no? I don't have a choice, lest I want to be the downfall of two entire races.

Soon, once I have perfected it, I will post The Sentence for this story, and also a little blurb. (I find that writing a blurb helps me to focus with the story.)

EDIT -- Finially came up with the Senetence for this story. The blurb will come next ^^

A Blood donor sets out to find the hunters and end an age-long war before they completely destroy the Vampires, who are the key to the change of seasons.

EDIT 2 -- Didn't really take me as long as I thought it would to write the blurb. Here is is now;

Found by vampires and told of her true nature, Keavy Palomo, sets out to create an alliance between hunter and vampire when the age-long war between them threatens to destroy the world.

She soon finds herself lost in a world of politics, consumed by rebellious thoughts against the Vampires, and the lover of Mirze Rios - Nemesis and tracker of the man she is donor to. Keavy finds that this new world is far too big for her, with rules that are very different from the one she was born into.

But the world is depending on her, because without the vampires, there is no change in seasons, and without the hunters there is no passion. Both races must survive if the world is to stay alive.

The Dead Isles...

Book two of the War of Meadeit Trilogy has begun. I have finished laying all the ground work I will need, and now it is only a matter of an outline that is needed. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to write the second book somehow, but things are all falling into place, and I can see what should be happening in the next book, how to connect them to the first, and how to create openings for the third book. I'm pretty excited.

Other than that, there hasn't been much work on Irvine's story. I really do have to get back to that. Tonight I will try and get, The sentence done for it, and then do a little bit of worldbuilding. I think I pretty much have everything in order, but I would like to create a map for D'nalisvereh.

The short story Guardian of the Lake is going well. I'm really enjoying the writing process, it amazes me how much I really did miss it.

Editing for Beneath Ice is still labourous, though most of it is getting cut. I think I have about 10,000 words kept at the moment. Though most of those are going to be cut and re-written. I still remain optimistic about the whole process. I have learnt heaps about both the writing and editing process just by doing so. Editing no longer seems like such a scary thing. I've also found I am better able to see how I might change some of my other books when I begin on them.

Since I am cutting most of Beneath Ice, I am going to treat it like a whole new book. Of course it will be second draft, but I will treat it as though it is first draft. I don't see myself ever wanting to sell this novel, it has simply been a practice novel. So it will never go out on shelves. But I do want to make it a good, strong story. Just so I can show myself that I can turn a pile of crud, into something shiny and fun. ^^

So I've gone through 22 chapters of Beneath Ice so far, and I felt my concentrations beginning to deteriorate, so I wrote myself up a schedule, which is what I do when I begin to get lazy on things. That means by this Sunday I will have it all done, and it will be ready to go through and create an outline so that I can begin writing it. I am just going to treat it like a new book. The title will probably change as well, seeing as the main character is now Lakin rather than Krindel.

I began the writing progress again. I started on my little, 5000 word short story. So far the first scene has been written, so it will begin to come together now as well. I'm going to try and get this one finished by the end of this month. After all, it is only very small. I should be able to get it done in a matter of a few days, but it won't hurt to pace myself.

As for reading, I think that I am going to have to go back through Techniques of the selling Writer, By Dwight Swain. I started reading it again the other night, and it really amazes me how many things I missed, or forgot about. This would be about the fourth time I've read it aswell. It's just such a good book. I love it so much, and I find that every time I read it, my writing improves a little as well. I guess my writing style is fairly close to what he describes.

Editing Progress

So far the editing has been going good. Only problem is, most of the story has actually been cut. Out of 41 scenes so far, I have kept 7. I've gone through 18 chapters so far, which means that I only have 16 chapters left to do. I think I will have cut so much by the time I'm finished this stage of editing that it will simply be like writing the first draft of a new story, just with a few scenes already fleshed out. That's how I'm going to treat it anyway. This story is in need of a big change. But I am enjoying doing it.

I used Holly's The Sentence for the story before I began editing, just so that I could understand where I was going with it. It changed the story a lot and now it gives me tingles and makes me excited.

The old sentence was -- Sorcerer versus time in a bid to restore memory and stop the world from dying.

But the new sentence is -- A rogue magician destroys all magic to shake an usurper Queen from her stolen throne.

I like the second sentence so much more I can see so many ways that I can be going with this. Anyways, back to the editing process!

The Dreaded Edits...

I haven't done much editing, but now that I have finished two novels that I love, I had decided I better get a wriggle on and get some practice. That, after all, is the only way for me to get better at it, just like with my writing.

So I am planning on going through my some of my Shorter works, I've already gone through one, and then step up to my larger works.

I'm thinking that I will do Beneath Ice fairly soon as well. I say this because that story is going to have a lot of cutting involved. It will be a lot of work, and I still don't believe it will ever be salable, but it will help me take that next step. I have been putting it off and putting it off, and I can see now that it was because 1) I was scared, and 2) I'm quite lazy, once the first draft was done I was quite happy to leave it. But this time I am going to push myself and really get into the editing. It is the only way that I will learn, and I want to have the editing process at least a little bit clearer in my head when I go to work on Poison.

So, on to the edits. This time I will persist, no matter how many scenes I have to cut out!

Got through the first 8 Chapters of Beneath Ice tonight. The writing of it is absolutely dreadful, though I'm ignoring that at the moment, and focusing rather on the content of each of the scenes. So far I have kept 5 of the 18 scenes that I have gone through. This novel is going to take a lot of work, but despite the fact that I have cut so much, I still feel fairly optimistic about it all. ^^

The Sentence for Dead Isles

I just finished doing one of the lessons for Holly's Think Sideways Course, seriously it just keeps getting better and better with each week! Anyway I wanted to try it with 'The Dead Isles' to see if it makes my idea stronger.

The original sentence was;

Jarlath's daughter, Anabel, becomes sick with a life threatening illness. The Blackwhite Esor must find the cure, delving into the dead Isles, whilst small Sen'am groups, led by Tine Rhyner, plot the downfall of Lydie and Jarlath to take back power.

I then changed the sentence to;

Elicia Foister battles her way through the dead Isles to find the Esor Rose, trapped there until the next Tsirc and unable to provide aid against the uprising Sen'am.

I personally think the second sentence is far better. It shows far more of what is going to happen, gives it a twist and makes me far more excited for the next book than the first sentence. Even though it is more brief, I still love it a lot more.

On another note, I also finished My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, and it was brilliant. She is such a wonderful author and had me in tears at the end. The book is just so full of wild emotion. I just really loved it. That means on to Harshini by Jennifer Fallon for me!

Online Story

At the moment I'm in the middle of planning two stories, doing HTTS, and getting ready to edit Poison, and Pirates of Hcallaec. But that leaves me with nothing to write... So I was thinking of writing a very short novel, about 50,000 words, and posting it on FictionPress.com.

Once I get things started I will post chapters on a weekly basis, they will probably only be small. I will also post on this blog when new chapters come out and other bits and pieces about the story and where it is headed. When the story actually gets up, I will put a link to it on this blog.

I just have to figure out something to write. I think I have a story idea set up already, though, so it should be fine. ^^ I'm thinking something along the lines of Shapeshifters. So anyone interested in this? ^.^

The Dead Isles

My muse has been bugging me to begin planning the second book in the War of Meadeit Trilogy. So today marks the day that I begin sorting out everything and coming up with a plot so that I can write. Most of the worldbuilding is done. I did that with the first book, also most of the characters are done, so there isn't really all that much left for me to do. Only figure out what I'm meant to be writing about. :D

This is the idea I have so far for the story.

Jarlath's daughter, Anabel, becomes sick with a life threatening illness. The Blackwhite Esor must find the cure, delving into the dead Isles, whilst small Sen'am groups, led by Tine Rhyner, plot the downfall of Lydie and Jarlath to take back power.

Poison finished...!

I stuck to my schedule, and today I finished Poison. It makes me really happy to know that it's all finished. Now I have a little time to breath and work on Irvine's story, and the two courses I am doing. I'm beginning to brush up on editing this month because I want to be ready next month when I take on Poison for NaNoEdMo.

It's a great relief to have finally finished my Novels. Now that I have them done, I can focus on editing, and getting other stories ready for the First draft stage. ^.^ The process begins again.

Slogged out another whole chapter for Poison again today, which means that I only have one more Chapter to go. Tomorrow will be a good day for getting everything underway and writing the last of it. Then I will have completed two novels and Poison will be ready for NaNoEdMo this year. ^.^

On another note, I finished Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer today; finally. That means 2 down and 9 to go for my TBR list. I will finish it this year! Besides I have so many books I am just itching to read!

Poison

I thought this novel would be hard to get back into since I have been working so hard on Pirates of Hcallaec. Turns out my fears were for no reason. Today I whipped through 3 scenes, and completed Chapter 10, and I really had a lot of fun writing this story. It wasn't hard to get back into at all, and I really think that when Editing comes around in March, I will have a lot of fun editing this novel.

I've never really edited a novel before. I've started, many times, but I just never knew where to go. March is definitely going to be an experience for me, with NaNoEdMo, and it couldn't have come at a better time either. It will set me up and get me ready for when I have to edit my 2yn, which I was a bit worried about ^.^

Only two more Chapters to go on Poison! So it should be finished by Wednesday. Here's to hoping. ^^

Pen Name?

When I began writing Pirates of Hcallaec and started getting serious about being published I decided that I would use a pseudonym instead of my real name. I decided I would use Lyra Callaghan, rather than Michelle Roger.

Since finishing my book, and spreading the good cheer, the one question friends and family have been asking is; Are you going to write using your name?

To tell the truth I have no idea. I really wanted to use Lyra as my writing name, but now I'm just not sure. Seeing Michelle Roger on the cover of Pirates of Hcallaec (I'm determined to get it published no matter how long it takes or how many times I have to rewrite it) I think will be a real satisfaction.

I'm so stuck? Anyone got an opinion on the idea?

I can't believe it, I'm actually finished the first draft. It felt so good to write the last word, and I think it's probably the best ending that I've written!

I'm going to miss writing the first draft, but it is just so good to have finished such a large project. Pirates of Hcallaec came in at 193,936 words which is almost two times bigger than anything I have ever written!

I'm just so happy. It's finished!

Coming to a close...

I'm almost there. Tomorrow I will be starting on the last four scenes of the book. I am so excited. Although I can see so many places for this story to be improved, and I can there is going to be a lot of work done in the second draft, I really love this story. I don't think with any of the other novels I have written I have ever had this satisfaction when I came close to finishing. With all the rest I was relieved to have it finished, just because I hated it so much (But I am too stubborn not to finish :P) but this novel is so different. I love it, well not all of it, but there are a lot of aspects that I am very happy with!

The same goes with Poison, though I'm not yet close enough to the end to see if it is as fulfilling. That can wait until next week ^.^

I wrote another 7,000 words today, which was pretty cool. I got Chapter 35 complete and part of Chapter 36. That just leaves me to finish chapter 36 tomorrow and Chapter 37 Sunday and I will be finished!

Gosh it's been a long time in the coming but it is so close. My word count is way larger than I thought it would be. Though I'm sure it won't reach 200,000 words. Maybe 190,000 there isn't all that much left to write.

Then I can do some short stories and take a breather until I begin doing another novel. ^^ Hopefully by then I will have another job as well.

Three Chapters to go!

I finished Chapter 33 and Chapter 34 today. Wrote 8,154 words, which was again another big day. Tomorrow is going to be a big day as well. So far I have 180,000 words and so I'm guessing, judging by how many Chapters I have left, I'm going to have about 195,000 words of story when I finally finish. Which is quite a bit more than I planned for.

The finish however is looming near, which makes me more hopeful. I applied for three jobs today, and resubmitted my profile in the businesses here in little port. It amazed me that there were actually vacancies. Hopefully I will be able to get a new job then. My current one isn't giving me enough work, but if I can balance two, then I will be able to save some for Uni ^^So that will be good.

I'm just so excited! Soon (Next Thursday) I will have a clean plate so I can begin on some new works and a couple of short stories. I like writing short stories here and there. ^^ It'll also give me some time to concentrate on How to think Sideways and begin coming up with some ideas for that I've already got a few in mind. They're still fantasy, but a little different from my usual style. Though I also want to try for an entirely different genre during this course. Maybe a full on romance? That could be fun, I can already feel the possibilities.

Getting so close!

Wrote another 2,232 words today on Pirates of Hcallaec. That brought me to the end of Chapter 32, which means only five more left to go. Which works out to be roughly 25,000 more words, give or take. I'm pleased to say that I have stuck to my schedule perfectly so far, and so I'm confident that I will have this done by Sunday, February 1st.

That means I can go onto Poison, and I'm sure that I can get that done by next Thursday, February 5th. That will give me the rest of the time to get some more done with Irvine's story, which is really starting to make my fingers itch. It will also give me plenty of time to let Poison sit before NaNoEdMo starts in March.

Another good day of Progress

I wrote 4,156 words today and was able to finish Chapter 31 and get halfway through Chapter 32. Which means only 5 and a half chapters left until I'm finished. So excited.

So far I have stuck pretty well to my schedule. I've hit my goal everyday. Let's just hope it stays that way, especially since Thursday and Sunday are going to be big days. Tomorrow's not too bad. I have only planned to do 2 scenes, so that's pretty easy. One in the morning, one in the afternoon.

The countdown is on now. I spent most of today writing, and I have to say it was a pretty productive day. I wrote 11,500 words and got two whole chapters finished. Now I only have seven more to go. The end is getting ever closer, which is making me really excited ^^

The Middle comes to an End

Finally I have finished the middle of Pirates of Hcallaec, and am on to the End. Now I just have to let things escalate in the final battle, resolve everything, and tie up all the lose ends. This is the fun bit, where all the tension is coming in!

Once this novel is complete, I can finish my NaNo novel, which will hopefully by finished in time for NaNoEdMo. Though it's no big deal if it isn't, I've still got Beneath Ice that I could work on if I have nothing else this march. (Shudders at the thought of going through the pile of slush that is Beneath Ice)

Tomorrow I plan on getting hooked into the next two chapters, Chapter 29 and 30. I will leave Thursday and Sunday open to do more than just a few scenes, and that means that hopefully, if every thing goes according to plan, I will be finished this novel by the end of next week. Which will be good because that gives me time for everything else! ^^

The Middle is almost finished!

Today was a good day for writing. I got everything I needed to get done around the house, plus I still had time to get down a few scenes. I ended up getting 8,945 words which got me to the end of Chapter 27 in the book. Which means that I have one more chapter before the middle is completely finished and I can move onto the end of the book. Which will be good.

I only have ten more chapters left, and over the next few weeks I plan on really beginning to pump out the words. Tomorrow I want to get Chapter 28 finished. And on Sunday I plan on getting 29 and 30 finished. So it shouldn't be much longer before I finish the first draft of Pirates of Hcallaec. I'm aiming for the end of February, which means I'll be a whole month in front of the original deadline I gave myself, and then I can finish NaNo before I begin to write the novel I'm planning to write during Holly Lisle's How to think Sideways course. ^^

So I had a bit of a block. I thought I got rid of it before, but the writing progress has only just come back to me. I adjusted my goals so that I now aim for 2 scenes a day instead of 5000 words, which even I can see was a little steep.

I'm not even going to bother about focusing on Poison until I have finished writing Pirates of Hcallaec, it drains my mind jumping from one to the other, but I am determined to finish it as soon as I have written the last word for Pirates.

I've also done a bit more on the planning of Irvine's story. Since I finally bought Holly Lisle's How to think Sideways course, which may I say is awesome, I have been working on that story. It will give me something to write whilst editing Poison and Pirates.

Anyways, for today I aim to get to 135,000 words on Pirates of Hcallaec. Which means I have to write 2,550. So... off to write, and then to read, and then to bed. ^^

Reached my goal, ended up writing 2663 words tonight, which also means that Chapter 25 is now complete. Now tomorrow I get to write in Elicia's POV again. ^^

A Darkness Forged in Fire - Chris Evans

I just finished the first book on my TBR list this morning, and I have to say it was absolutely awesome. I really recommend this book. The characters are charming and witty, making me laugh on many an occasion. I fell in love with the story line, and in the more intense moments of the book found myself holding my breath in anticipation. I also had many sleepless nights in a row. Not so good for my beauty sleep. ^.^

Now that I've finished the first book on my TBR list, it's time to move onto the next one. Hopefully there will be another small review up within the next few weeks. On to My Sisters Keeper ~ Jodi Picoult!

I was going through my bookshelves yesterday, after I added, yet another addition to my already full collection of books, and I decided I have to get off my butt and begin reading again. I mean over the year I've read things, but only small parts, and have been jumping from book to book. I haven't really finished any of the books in there.

So this morning I went through my selves and made note of all the books with bookmarks in them. So that I can finish a little bit of reading over the next year. I have 11 that I started on, and never actually finished. It's rather sad actually, seeing as they are all books that I have been enjoying reading, I just find another one and begin to read it instead. Jumping between them depending on what mood I'm in. Next year I'm going to get out of that bad habit I got myself into. Now I have a bit more time on my hands (Though I am applying for a new job. Hopefully I will be able to get the 5am to 10am shift everyday, which will free up my day for sure).

I finished this story some time ago now, and I have tried twice now to edit it with no huge success. Tonight, I begin again. This time will be different. This time I will sit down, and attack this story.

I've never been real good with edits. Never actually been able to sit down and seriously begin on changes. I can see where they are now. Since doing 2yn my whole view on writing has changed. I am going to have to edit 'Pirates of Hcallaec' in fact I already now can see bits and pieces that I really need to change and rework in the next section.

Working on 'Selected by the Gods' should give me a little experience with the labors of second draft and editing. I am going to really work at it this time. Not go half arsed at it as I usually do!

Uni

Last month I got a letter telling me I had been accepted into UNE, through early entry.

Today I got a letter telling me I have been given an offer through UAC for UNE, and a form to send back for my acceptance.

Now I am eagerly awaiting my enrollment forms which will come in soon. I'm so excited. I got into the exact course that I wanted through early entry, and my HSC results aren't even out yet. It is such a relief to know that I will be going to Uni, and the one that I really wanted to go to as well!

I'm absolutely esstatic!

Just found this, WriYe it looks interesting. It is a year long NaNo, only you chose your word count and it isn't just for one novel, it's for as many as you like during the year. Sounds like a whole lot of fun, will really keep one motivated.

Though it is a lot like the one on forward motion, so I'm not sure if I will actually join this year, think I'll sus it out first ^^

Edit :: What the heck, I signed up anyways, ^.^ I aim for 500,000 words over 2009. This is the same length for the one on FM, so I guess it would still count. Anyways, with all the novels I have planned to do next year, I'll definitely get enough. After all I only have to write 1370 per day, 9590 per week and 41667 per month. Easy! (Well at least it's looking easy at the moment.) At least it will keep me going!

Australia

Last time I went to the movies was to see The dark knight. I didn't think I would ever see another movie that rivaled it, nor 10,000 BC. Tonight I went to see Australia, and my breath was taken away!

Hugh Jackman was the perfect pick for the real Auzzie man! *drools* and Nicole Kidman was a very good choice as well! But my favorite character was the little boy who played Nullah, the very soul of the movie.

Seeing that movie just made my night. It was so good, and is definitely up there in my top fave movies!

I was looking at what assignment we are up to in 2yn, and I realised that we are almost finished the course, only 4 lessons left for this year. It makes me really excited. The year just went soo fast!

Seeing the link for sign ups for next year, and all the people that are joining gives me a lot of nostalgia and really brings me back. I can still remember waiting for weeks until the course started. >.< Reminds me of just how far we've come. :P

Wrote a whole chapter on Pirates of Hcallaec today. Also reached 100,310 words. Which means the hard yard is done. Not much longer to go only 69,690 words to be exact, which really doesn't seem to be that much, Not hard to reach at all!

Also finished Chapter 18 of Pirates of Hcallaec. That means, provided I don't add anymore chapters which is bound to happen at least once, I only have 18 more chapters to go!

What NaNo has taught me

I stole this idea from Soleil. After reading her blog post on what she learnt, it made me think about what i'd learnt, and I discovered it was a lot more than I actually thought.

This was my second NaNo and I can safely say that both years I have learnt alot. First year I discovered that I need an outline, and various other bits and pieces to help the story flow.

1. This year I discovered I need to pace myself, before I get into the writing part. I have always been the same. I am plot driven when it comes to stories, rather than character driven. Still am, I like that way. But I found that my characters were no where near as strong in this story, as they are in Pirates of Hcallaec. Although there are characters in Pirates of Hcallaec that have just randomly been created, they all seem to have more depth. Even though the characters in Poison had more depth than characters from previous stories I have written, they still don't seem as 'real' as the characters from my 2yn. So I need more character building.

2. Instead of sitting down for a writting session with a goal to get to a particular word count, I should sit down with a goal of getting at least one scene done. My writing has changed a lot. I can no longer sit down with my little outline and write exactly whats on it, things happen. I find myself splitting one scene planned in my outline, into about five or six in the actual writing. So I no longer limit myself to the scenes I have in my outline because I create scenes as I go, which helps with pace. Some of them are really long, others are really short (And I'm talking like 400 words short.)

3. I like small chapters. NaNo really opened my eyes to this, even though I had started to see it with pirates. I also don't like to write with many POV to one chapter. The reason I say small chapters is, I find them easier to write. For most of my books I plan for Chapters to be about 5000 words long, which is a good length, one that I can reach with three or four scenes in the one chapter. Only problem is, those three of four scenes begin to split and can almost be counted as one chapter all on their own. I also love reading books with really small chapters, such as Jennifer Fallon's books. I'm totally for a book of 200,000 words that ends up with 300+ chapters. I find it easier to read. Maybe that's why I find it easier to write.

4. Trust in my muse. My little muse gets excited about 30,000 words into the book. The first 30,000 words are often boring to me, and don't sit right, and I begin to get the whole negative thoughts. Once past this 30,000 my muse begins to have fun, and I realise it has already set up things to make other events possible. Characters start to appear and ignore me and do what they want. Such as Gerard, the chimney sweep of Opaix castle, a minor character, I have to stress the word minor, teaming up with Chrisander and bringing up a whole scandal about hunters and Ganix. Let me tell you, it is not an easy storyline to work out, and was never part of my original outline. But I have to trust my muse, he's led me alright so far during the story. Things are more interesting.

5. Just like Soleil, I will say the same thing. Never attempt two stories at the same time. Guaranteed I will do it next NaNo, but still. It's not advisable. I'm just lucky my characters in Pirates of Hcallaec have such a great sense of humor, and I left at such a dangerous time in the book. They need me to get them out! lol.

6. And last but by no means least, again the same as Soleil (Which actually a lot of what I learnt is the same, but hey.) Trust in yourself. It's always the first 30k that are the worst for me. In every book I have written it has been the same. (Which is by no means alot. Most of them didn't even reach 30k for this very reason. Only 2 actually got complete. Both incomprehensible, but both teaching me a lot. And last years NaNo, which is still not complete. but has 50k and a lot of learning.) I have to just learn to get over it, even if it's bad, tell myself I can fix it in second draft and edits and move on with the rest of the story (which I have been getting very good a doing!). I need to trust myself more.

Back in business

I sat down and wrote the rest of a scene I'd last been working on with Pirate today. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't pick up on Elicia's voice, seeing as it is so much different from those in Poison, but the words came easily. I really enjoyed writing the little bit that I did, and am happy to say that my word count should begin to get progressively higher very soon. Of course I still have to finish Poison. First things first, I will finish the outline for that! >.<

At least I can get back to writing Pirate. I really have missed the characters. They make me laugh. (Which can be quite disturbing for my family when I start to just randomly start laughing.)

Can't help but to share my favorite quote from that scene.

"He's just grumpy because he's had no sleep and no alcohol." Adrian grinned, thumping him on the back. "It's a bad combination."

"You bet it is!" Shina growled, his eyes narrowing in disgust. "I really hate the Sen'am!"

Too big

I was going to get the whole entire novel for NaNo written. Unfortunately for me, it is getting far larger then I actually anticipated and so I am going to give myself more time to write it.

Though for the good news, I almost have 50,000 words. Only need 200 more. So off to writing for me!

Finished 50,000 words, and am now officially a winner of NaNo, yay! Lol. Though this book is soo much bigger then I originally planned for!

Okay, I only have 5000 more words to write, but still 4 chapters to complete. This story is going way over what I originally planned. But I have a plan. Today I will not go by word count, but rather I will work with Chapter count. Which could be bad because I still haven't finished my outline. (oopie)

Anyway, Today I will Finish up to at least Chapter 10, and then tomorrow I will finish the book and then I will post my word count and then I will be happy, because it will be finished!

Which then means I can concentrate more on my 2yn novel and get it up and running again. Gotta love NaNo, and the way the last few days just seem to make you push it all out. Though I have a bit motivation now as well. I got accepted into Uni through early entry, and I was accepted for the three courses that I wanted, which means I get to chose any one of them. Which is really good because I kinda changed my mind. I wanna do a bachelor of communication studies now instead of a bachelor of arts. Lol.

Okay, 6 hours of work, and then on to writing, I'm ready!

NaNo push

I have reached 44123, which means I don't have much to go before I reach 50,000 words. Only back thing is, I still have many chapters left to go, and I want to reach 60,000 words before the end of November. I also wanted to have this entire story finished by the end of November, so then I could focus on Pirate again.

That means, my goal today is to hit 50,000. Which shouldn't be too hard, seeing as it's not much. Then over the last 4 days I will push to try and get the last of the story written. It's going to be a struggle.

NaNo

Today I am planning on writing a lot for my NaNo, don't know if it will turn out like that, but I can always stay up late tonight if I need to, lol. Anyway, thought I'd just share a snippet of what I have currently.

Gerard was ready when Chrisander brought Scarlett out, but not quite ready to see her naked. He froze, eyes widening in shock. "What are you doing?"

"Her clothes were too sorched to bring out. She needs attention and fast!"

Gerard hesitated, but the wounds on her legs were already spurting blood, and by the colour of her face and lips, she'd lost a lot. Kneeling down beside her, Gerard placed his hands on her thigh, above and below her worst wound. "I don't know much of healing magic, but I can stop the bleeding enough for the wounds to heal themselves."

Chrisander nodded, gut twisting with a mixture of envy and jelousy that Gerard should be touching Scarlett. A woman they both lusted over. Pulling his shirt over his shoulders, he threw it to Gerard, getting to his feet.

"She can have that when you are finished, she will not appreciate being naked when she wakes up." Why, he didn't know. She was beautiful. "I will stand watch."

I am ahead in both my word counts for NaNo and 2YN. I am actually enjoying 2Yn so much that I just keep writing on it. I'm not going to write anything more on it today or tomorrow and only focus on NaNo, because although I'm ahead I still want to try and get something more written on it so that I don't lose the flow of things.

Though I am very happy with how Pirate is going, I am now just a bit over halfway, having reached 90,000 words. It's a good feeling. :P

Okay, I have a lot of ideas for writing, but whilst I was waiting for my sister to get out of school, I was hit with a story that makes me bubble with excitement. I haven't loved an idea this much since my 2YN story.

My 2YN novels were originally going to be seven books, each portraying one of the seven deadly sins. It didn't work out that way. This new story I have is the story of Arianetta, and will encompass that idea.

I am, however, slightly hesitant about this idea. But that is probably because the story once again revolves around pirates. Though it is very different from the War of Meadiet Trilogy, I still wonder if it's such a good idea. I'm still going to write it down and think on it a bit though, because it has just left me too excited, it would be silly to shrug that off!

Writing Journal

I use Liquid story binder XE to write, and I must say it's a fabulous program, one which I would be completely lost without.

One of the updates to Liquid Story binder, made journals available for the books that you are writing. Since then I have been contemplating if I want to use one or not. It was actually Soleil who triggered the thought in my mind that it wouldn't be such a bad idea. Seeing her posts everyday for NaNo, which say her goal, and her current word count as well as giving a small snippet, gave me the idea that keeping such things in a journal for each book, plus writing down what I liked, didn't like, time it took, what frustrated me, if the words came easy etc, would be a really good idea for each book, it could keep the motivation happening and make me more eager to write. I think I may just have to try it :P

NaNo Snippet

Thought I'd share a bit of what I've written. This is probably my Favorite scene in the book and was the one I used for my excerpt in my NaNo profile.

The brig smelt like fresh spring flowers. Scarlett screwed up her nose. This was obviously the work of one of the women Acolytes, charged with cleaning the brig out. Obviously no one had told her that the place was supposed to instill fear into any prisoners on the ship, and so a rotten smell would have been more appropriate. Now the prisoners would probably think they were going to heaven instead of a place of punishment.

Her stomach growled with hunger once again. She was going to have to eat the smoked meat, no matter that she really didn't feel like it anymore. Reaching up to her shoulder, she remembered she'd taken it off to get into the barrel. In her rush to get away without her Father finding out, she'd left it in the bottom of the barrel. Her stomach growled in anguish, cursing her for her stupidity.

There was now only one thing left for her to do. Get one of the Acolytes to bring her something down. Sending out her awareness once again, getting rather sick of using so much magic in the one night, she found the woman who was acting as chef that night. She put a small seed of thought into her head, and was glad when the Acolyte accepted it and began to prepare her a meal. She wouldn't even need to get out of the brig to get it.

Sitting back she waited for her food to come to her. It was easier then she thought, and her Father would never even know.

Footsteps echoed outside of the brig door, Scarlett sat up in anticipation, waiting for the girl to walk through the door, so that she could convince her that she wasn't really there, and it was her own imagination.

The door swung open with force, but to her dismay it was not the cook who stood in the doorway. Scarlett swallowed heavily. She was in so much trouble.

Pirate Vs Poison

This morning I wrote some more on my 2Yn novel, pirate. It amazes me that it is on a whole different level then my NaNo novel. I guess because I really didn't put much preparation into NaNo, well not as much as my 2YN. I find the words come a lot easier for Pirate. The characters also seem more believable to me personally which probably makes it a lot easier to write.

However, I still will push through with NaNo. I seem to recall that I hated everyword of Pirate when I first began. I always find the beginning the hardest.

The First hurdle of 2YN novel

Writing has been going smoothly. This morning I finished chapter nine, which means I have officially passed the first hurdle. I have a complete beginning to my story. The next hurdle is getting to the middle of the book. I think enjoying writing this novel so much, probably more then anything I've ever written before. But since I have finished the middle, It's time for me to spend some money on myself and buy something that will help out with my writing. I just don't know what yet, maybe some software or something.

NaNo. I have planned a novel to sit down and write in NaNo. It has an interesting concept, and is definitely not what I thought I would be writing. But I've begun to put together a folder for it. So everything is beginning to come around. I'm hoping to write my NaNo novel and my 2YN novel at the same time.

As far as titles are concerned, I've never been very good at coming up with them, though I do like my title for my NaNo novel. Which leads to the point that I need to hurry up and come up with a title for my 2YN, but nothing I come up with seems to fit. I have called it the Deadly Sins trilogy, but that doesn't entirely fit anymore either. So that is my next task, to figure out a title that suits my novel (even if it does get changed at a later date.)

Anway, here's a little synopsis type thing for the NaNo novel I plan on writing;

Today I sat down for 5 hours, just like I promised myself I would, and I'm proud to say that I reached just a bit over 10,000 words on my current 2YN project. Which means that I'm catching up to the word count that I should be at.

I've decided that I really like the whole 10,000 words in a day, so I'm going to set aside time every sunday to write 10,000 words for my WIPs, as this is a day where I usually don't have much to do anyway. That will help me to balance out my 2Yn and the novel that I'll be writing for NaNo during November.

Editing -- Stage one

I knew that I was going to have to throw quite a few words away before I started the editing process, but it is getting worse and worse as I go on. Currently I have tossed the first three whole chapters, which were more world building then anything. I have also deciding to change the main POV character which means half the scenes in the entire book will be wiped out because of this. I have soo much to do... Though I am only doing it after I have finished my word count for 2Yn which I have a feeling will be going through the same process as this book I am writing now.

At least I finally have a direction for the book to take. :P

Beneath Ice Edits

I finished 'Beneath Ice' a couple of weeks ago and have only ever thought of it as a practice. However, this is the first time that I have actually started the editing stage, so I'm excited. This will give me practice and a feel for full on editing. I mean I have edited small works, but nothing like this. It will be interesting. . . ^_^

At it again

Still two weeks left of outlining, I am finally getting some things done in my 2YN WIP but there is still so much left to do! I've almost finished 'Beneath Ice' I have 2 scenes left, so I'm quite excited, which of course got me to thinking.

I like to get up of a morning and write a least one scene, my day is not complete otherwise. So in about two days I will be finished Beneath Ice. That will leave me with two weeks without anything to write! So I went on the internet and got a story prompt for a short story. I just finished the outline for it today. It will be 10, 000 words long, and I really love it. The only bad thing is, I write 10, 000 words in a week, so that means I will have to try and find something else to occupy myself with when I've finished with it -- Oh the drama!

Also, whilst I was doing a little bit of worldbuilding for this story, I went searching for a program that would help me make a map. I found Autorealm. Its a real neat piece of free software that allows you to design maps. It has heaps of symbols and stuff. I really like it. It will help so much when I make the maps for the rest of my worlds.

No all as I have to do is create the map for my 2yn

I'm so close to finishing 'Beneath Ice'. It is going to need so much revision it's seriously not funny. But I now have a direction I want the 'Element Trilogy' to go in. I have started on the outline for the second book, and thought of a good working title this morning. I called it 'Brother'. I'm heaps excited about writing it, but of course my 2YN will come first. I was thinking I could do this story for NaNo this year. I really want to do NaNo again, last year was my first time, and it was so good. Such a learning curve! It opened my eyes to how much I really love writing, it was also the largest writing goal I had ever reached, and I discovered how much I enjoyed writing everyday. ^_^

'The Marshall Plan for Novel Writing' By Evan Marshall -- Review

So as I said I would, here is a review for the latest reference book that I've read. Before I got this book, I of course read all the reviews on it that I could find, and although I read a lot that were very positive, I also read a lot that said this structure was very rigid and stifling, so I was a bit worried after I ordered it in. However, I feel that it really was worth the money that I spent on it.

The book is broken down into sixteen very easy steps. It starts out determining genre and then idea, moves into the lead character, romantic involvement and the lead character's confident. After fleshing out characters, the book moves onto the steps involving plotting. Marshall uses 'Sections' to make up his novel. The amount of sections used for each the beginning, middle and end are calculated through a table. How to plan and write these action and reaction sections come next, including how to connect them into one.

The book also gives valuable information on how to create a professional looking manuscript, a title page, synopsis and query letter as well as information about agents and how to find one. I loved the overall structure of this novel and the way it gave information in a clear and easy to understand way.

I have definitely seen a change in my writing since reading this book. I have been able to look at my writing and see some of the things that have been making it drag a little. Though it may not be for everyone, I recommend it to anyone who is interesting, there is a lot that can be learned from this book (such as editing, etc), even if you don't follow the structure that Marshall sets up. I found it very helpful and it will definitely be one of the top reference books on my shelf (right beside Techniques for the Selling Writer by Dwight Swain and Self editing for writers by Renni Browne and Dave King)

Surprise Scene . . .

I couldn't sleep last night, and so I found myself on my Mother's computer... For some reason I opened up a new document and just started typing. Now I have the first scene of a book. I have no idea who the characters in it are, no Idea what its about. I just know that one of them is on a mission and the other is not human. But it has intrigued me so I printed it off and stored it away, ready to use when I have the time to write something.

I now have 79, 000 words in Beneath Ice. Won't be long and I'll be finished my biggest project. I see this piece more of a practice then anything else, but maybe one day I will try to get it into print.

I was looking for PDAs this morning. I found the one I want. It's the AT&T Tilt. It looks very good and I'm getting quite excited for it.

Also I'm almost finished reading 'The Marshall Plan for Novel Writing' by Even Marshall. I'm up to the second last step. So far so good, I'm really getting a lot out of it for my writing, I've noted the significant improvement in my current WIP. Once I'm through with it I might put up a review, but I definitely recommend it for writers. You don't have to follow the way he does things, but there is a ton of really great information in it. Such as whilst in the editing stage, scene structure, connecters for scenes, chapter breaks and the things that I find the most handy; a synopsis, query letter, professional manuscript layout including the title page, etc... It really is very good, and I used the formats to help me create a manuscript for the two Short Stories I sent away, I can honestly say that they are looking far more professional now!

On an ending note, my 2YN is going along fabulously. I have so many scenes, right now I'm at 56, but I have planned for 136. These will of course be combined to become a lot less scenes. Though every time I think that I don't have a clue what to do next, I come up with something. This story really has me very excited!

Submission Crazy!

I sent out another short story for submission today. This time it was to Wet Ink and under the same pseudonym. This is the second story I have sent to them, the first was rejected, though this time my manuscript looks a lot more professional, and far easier to read!

Now I have two stories out!

I just sent another story off for submission... This time I sent it to Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, it was sent in under the Pseudonym Lyra Callaghan. It is one of the short stories that I wrote for the May story a day competition on Forward Motion, and the second story that I have submitted.

New Book! New Blog!

I just got off the phone to Angus and Robertson... They have my book in!! So now all I have to do is go down and get it out so that I can read it, I am so seriously excited!!!

Also, I have been fiddling around with Wordpress for a while now, and I am trying to figure out if I really want to change blogs or not. I really like the way Wordpress is set up, but I'm really not sure. I guess I'll have to mull it around in my head for a while.

Dares 1-7

For the first week, I think I've done alright

Worldbuilding = 831 words for my new fantasy, and 1501 for Beneath Ice which is a total of 2332.
I never ended up actually doing any worldbuilding save an outline for Beneath Ice, and so I've had to do a lot of worldbuilding to make up for that whilst I've been writing the actual novel. Though its not too bad that way.

Short stories = I haven't written any yet, but I plan to have one up soon

30, 000 word edit = Haven't actually started on this either, but I have goals of 15, 000 words a month, so that will balance it all out. ^_^

Also I've been pretty busy with my current word count on Beneath Ice. It's coming along very nicely, and I can't believe that I only have 35, 000 words to go on it! That seems so much more achievable now then when I first started and it was 100, 000 to go! I know that I will have this one finished in no time!

Halfway through, and Dares

In the space of four weeks, I have come to the middle of my novel, and I have no inclination to stop writing until the very end! I am so happy right now, because I have figured out that all my projects are in trouble of me giving up on them in the first 10, 000 - 20 000 words, after that I get into the swing of writing the novel and just breeze through! And next week is the start of school holidays, so I will be able to write heaps more! My goal is to get 50 000 words done in the two weeks so that I can have this finished!

And once again it is July! That means that the July/August Dare on forward motion has started. I've already signed up for;
- 4 short stories in the two months
- 8000 words worldbuilding
- 30 000 word rewrite

This will allow me to finally get Selected by the Gods edited, and also opens up a whole new WIP for me to work on once I am finished beneath ice. Though I really think that I will do the sequel to Beneath ice next (second book in the element Trilogy) get that started and then I will be able to edit Beneath Ice and hopefully send it in for submission. That would be good, though I don't think it has a very strong story line at this point in time. Once I finish Beneath Ice, and start on another WIP, this can count towards the 90 000, word count dare for the two months, but first I have to finish writing Beneath Ice, so no jumping ahead for me!

Submission Rejected!

I got my first submission rejection today. Though I'm not real cut up about it, the stuff I have been working on lately has been far better. I am just glad that I had a try at submitting something instead of just saying that I will. Now I can maybe send some more of my work off ^_^

New Book!

I was surfing the net yesterday cuz I was bored, and I found a new how - to book that looks really interesting. And in my opinion you can't have too many how to books.

Its called; The Marshall plan for novel writing. What I've read about it leads me to believe that he uses many of the same techniques as Dwight Swain, who's book "Techniques for the selling Writer" Is like my bible!

Just wondering if anyone has read it. If you have, I would love to hear some of the details on it, see what you think.

Finally the time has come for me to edit "Selected by the Gods" It suddenly popped into my head when I was in the shower the other night, and I got this huge brain blast and got all excited. Since this is the second largest complete manuscript that I have written, it may take a while for me to hone my editing skills Lol.

Anyway I have the plan of adding in quite a few subplots and turning it into a full length novel, this made me real excited because I thought of all the content I can add. Currently it is told through Adela's POV in third person, and there is quite a few more character POVs I can add in if I want to make it longer. All in all I don't think it will take away from my current WIP as I am going to edit in scenes, not wordcount, and seeing as I do most of my writing in the morning, that leaves a little bit of time during the afternoon in which I can edit this story. ^_^

This is actually the first large edit (I haven't edited any of my other work, other then short stories) I have ever done, and so I decided to use the hints on "Using an outline to edit" Which was the first workshop that was completed on forward motion in the learning centre, it was taught by MarFisk. I started it when it was running, but unfortunately got too busy and couldn't continue. I really like what it teaches and thought this would be the best time to have a go and see if it can help me with this story ^_^

In other news, its less then 3 months away from my Eighteenth birthday! Which I am so excited for, I mean you only turn eighteen once right? Then I can legally drink (Well in Australia anyway) It also means I will be that much closer to going for my green Ps, and University is ever looming in the distance! So much going on! My Mum was talking to me the other day as well, and her and Dad both offered to buy me a PDA for my birthday, so that I can use it for both my writing and Uni. Mum only just found out what one was, and she did so by watching NCIS, which I have been watching with her when I have the time, its such a great show, and gives me heaps of quality time with my Mum, not that we don't do heaps together anyway.

Okay this post just offically became a blurt of totally random stuff, so I'm going to go do something useful before someone's brain explodes, lol. o_O
